Marais (detail)
This print is of a detail from a painting I did for a friend’s Marais apartment.
The room had a particular stillness to it—the kind that settles in late in the afternoon when the light softens, stretching shadows across the furniture. I was struck by the way the deep blues of the bedding seemed to anchor the space, while the bedside lamps cast a quiet, golden glow.
The figure’s pose isn’t just about relaxation—it’s about presence, about being completely within a moment. There’s a tension in the way the arms reach back, in the way the body settles into the fabric. I wasn’t interested in capturing every detail, but rather the feeling of that scene—the way the air felt, the weight of light on skin, the hush of a room that exists almost outside of time.
