ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alexander B. Carter
Neo-Impressionist/Abstract Painter
Alexander B. Carter, a native of New Orleans, hails from a storied lineage of journalists and newspaper editors. His mother, an interior decorator, introduced him early to the interplay of aesthetics and storytelling. Raised in the French Quarter, Alexander absorbed the vibrant, gritty, and often surreal rhythms of the city—a dynamic that would later permeate his art.
Restless and yearning for broader horizons, he ventured to Paris at the age of 19. There, he spent a decade pursuing his studies, sketching on café napkins, exchanging ideas with assorted misfits, and soaking in the city's smoky, bohemian allure. The visceral experience of Paris shaped his artistic identity, translating its essence into every stroke on his canvas.
An unexpected camaraderie with a group of Turkish creatives inspired Alexander to relocate to Istanbul, where he now resides with his wife and two daughters. Istanbul’s layered history and dramatic landscapes provide a vivid backdrop to his evolving practice.
Splitting his time between Istanbul, Paris, and his lifelong summer retreat in mid-coast Maine, Alexander's works resonate with the interplay of places—each reflecting a distinct chapter of his journey. His art, deeply influenced by his surroundings, merges memory, emotion, and imagination into luminous tapestries of color and form.
